The 19th annual Women’s Health Night was huge success thanks to our wonderful vendors, attendees, the Wesleyan Shirk Center, and our keynote speaker, Gold-Medal Olympian, Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
The new Shirk Center location provided ample space for vendors and attendees to interact, parking for visitors and businesses, and room for a WERQ fitness demonstration.
We had numerous health vendors that discussed topics from proper running form, healthy eating and lifestyles, beauty and pampering, social services, heart and lung health, chiropractic care, hearing impairment, dental care, financial information, and the Town of Normal bike share program. These were only a few of the amazing local businesses and health organizations that made our event a success.
Jackie was kind enough to give an impromptu speech to the Wesleyan Track and Field team during the health exposition portion of the event. She spoke to the student athletes about giving your best to your academics and athletics by prioritizing your time and energy regardless of life’s unexpected circumstances.
Jackie then gave a touching speech about overcoming adversity in her own life to achieve her Olympic dreams in the heptathlon and long jump. After the speech, Jackie led approximately 50 people of all ages and athletic abilities in a warm-up for a fun run walk around the Shirk Center track.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the 19th annual Women’s Health Night a success.
